My Approach to Healing

We are spiritual, sensual, multi-faceted beings having a complex human experience. There is nothing wrong with you that needs to be fixed.

I respect and appreciate each person who chooses to work with me. A large part of that respect is validating you and your lived experience. I, like you, have experienced many challenges, barriers, and setbacks in this life and I have reached out to my community of helpers for support. I believe none of us completes this life alone, even when we feel like we’re alone. As difficult as change and growth may be, you’re worth it and I honor your willingness to reach out to me for support.

Counseling/therapy is an important part of what I do; however, it is not all of what I do. Just as we are whole people, I approach counseling from a wholeness and wellness approach. My introduction to counseling and the helps professions started in my home, in my upbringing. There was always a slice of cake, pie, coffee or tea in our home where people would come to just sit and talk with my mother and father. I listened…I watched…I absorbed…and I imbued that process. With no intention to ever to do this work as a career, I acknowledged my abilities as an adult in my 30’s. I realized I had been in training and apprenticeship from a lineage of people with the gift of gab, joy, and healing energy.

My introduction to my own healing work came after my outreach to my community of healing artists, coaches, shamans, and energy workers when I needed help. I decided to get licensed to have my own practice and to offer clinical and holistic approaches to healing. I have professional training in Reiki, a traditional Japanese energy-based healing system, as well as professional development in intuitive based arts and wellness including Voyager Tarot counseling. These complementary healing practices work best when the people receiving the support are in a healthy state of mind, meaning no current suicidal or homicidal ideation, and no current negatively impacting psychosis. As one of my mentors advised me, you take you wherever you go, and there is nowhere that I am where my intuitive guidance and healing are not.

I’m intentional about offering supportive and inclusive counseling and coaching for black people first from all gender identities. Ritual and ancestral reverence are important areas of our cultural practices and I’m inclusive of these aspects when it is appropriate. I am a spiritualist and informed ritualist with insight into African traditional spiritualities, altar work, meditation, and mindfulness. Please note, I am not an initiated practitioner in an African or African based tradition.

My practice does not accept insurance for payment. I contract with other practices to make insurance accessible to those who choose and want to use it who still would like to receive counseling with me (contact me for more information). As a one woman shop and to maintain integrity and freedom in my approach to wellness with adult individuals, offering my services at a self-pay rate is the way I choose to manage it.
